With Pro Kabaddi Season 7 auctions scheduled on 7th and 8th April speculations are doing the round on retentions of players by franchise. Last year Bengal Warriors retained Surjeet Singh and Maninder Singh. Starting from Surjeet Singh who was retained by Bengal warriors last season for whooping 80.30 lakhs, turning out to be the most expensive Indian defender. Not wise for Bengal Warriors to retain him and pay him a hike of 10-12% looking at his disappointing performance in season 6 and the last tournament where I have seen him playing was Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhayay Championship where Surjeet again disappointed. Bengal Warriors shall surely release him and if needed he can be RTM at much lower price during the auction.
Likely retention for Bengal Warriors is Maninder Singh, he played 22 matches, scored 206 points, with average of 9.36, in 376 raid attempts. Bengal Warriors retained him at 56.8 lakhs for season 6 and adding 10-12% retention fee for season 7 will be a wise decision. In auctions there are very few good right raiders and at 62 to 65 lakhs Maninder Singh is a steal.
Another raider Bengal Warriors might retain is Ravindra Ramesh Kumawat, the young raider, who played 12 matches and scored 42 points with a raid strike rate of 40.65% in 91 raid attempts. With his skills on the mat he looked promising and a likely retention for Bengal Warriors.
Talking about defense right corner Baldev Singh is a right retention choice who displayed some brilliant back holds in season 6, he played 18 matches and scored 28 points with 38.57% of tackle strike rate in 70 tackle attempts. In season 6 Bengal Warriors bought Baldev Singh for 12 lakhs and adding another 10-12% retention fee will be a wise investment. Another defender Bengal Warriors would retain is left corner Adarsh T, the promising young player from Kerala who showed some brilliant ankle holds.
