The first edition of the Khelo India University Games are set to get underway from 22nd February 2020 at the KIIT University in Bhuvneshwar. A total of 15 sporting events will be a part of the games. These include eight individual events like Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Swimming, Weightlifting and Wrestling. In the team events, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball will be the sports the teams will compete in.
Interestingly, Kabaddi has not found it's place in the inaugural edition of the games. Kabaddi was a part of the Khelo India School Games and the Khelo India Youth Games which took place in 2018 and 2019 respectively. The sport will continue to be a part of the upcoming edition of the Khelo India Youth Games as well.
The participants for the Khelo India University Games will be selected from the zonal and intern zonal tournaments which will be taking place this month. The Khelo India University Games are a part of the Khelo India program started by the Ministry of Sports to give the grassroot level talent a platform to showcase their skills.
The school and youth edition of the Khelo India Games had seen a participation of thousands of students in both the years.
