One of the most promising talents from U Mumba, Surinder Singh, is celebrating his 22nd birthday today. Having risen up to become an important part of the team, Surinder made a mark for himself in the debut season itself. Since then, the right cover has become a defender who can perform solo tackles easily and successfully.
Surinder was brought by U Mumba New Young Players’ pool of Future Kabaddi Heroes graduates. He went on to make his debut in Pro Kabaddi Season 5 when the team boasted of players like Anup Kumar, Joginder Narwal, and Shrikant Jadhav. Coming in as a teenager, Surinder got a chance to be in the playing seven of the team for 22 matches. He took the opportunity and scored 58 tackle points, the most by a defender from U Mumba that season and finished as the eighth-best defender of the season.
The following season saw Surinder teaming up with Fazel Atrachali and Dharmaraj Cheralathan to take charge of the defense. His stellar performance continued that season as well with a total of 62 tackle points from 22 matches. He was the second-highest tackle points scorer from his team and the seventh-highest among all the defenders that season. He also wrote his name in the record books with an assist to 100 tackles that season, a feat never achieved by any other player in Pro Kabaddi.
In a match against Gujarat Fortune Giants in Pro Kabaddi 2018, Surinder went on to pick up four raid points from one single raid to guide his team to a much-needed victory at home. He sent out Parvesh Bhainswal, Sunil Kumar, Sumit, and Ruturaj Kovari in the raid to help his team extend their lead against the Giants.
Surinder plays for the Himachal Pradesh Kabaddi Team in the national circuit and participated in the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championships in March 2020. With Ajay Thakur leading the team, and Vishal Bharadwaj in the left corner, UP had reached the semifinal of the tournament, only to be handed a defeat by Services. Surinder had scored 12 points from 21 tackles.
