Bengal Warriors is a Kolkata based franchise owned by Future Group promoted by Kishore Biyani. The Bengal Warriors plays in the Pro Kabaddi League, which is a professional kabaddi league in India. The first edition of the tournament was played in 2014 with eight franchises representing various cities in India, Later in 2017 four new teams were inducted, now total 12. Surjeet Singh led the team Bengal Warriors in season 6. The team play their home matches at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata West Bengal. Lee Jang-kun is the only foreign player in the team who played all six seasons in Pro Kabaddi for Bengal Warriors.They have qualified to the playoffs in PKL 3 PKL 5 and PKL 6, finishing in the bottom half of the table in the other 3 seasons. They were not able to win any of their playoff matches. In PKL 5 and 6 they were led by Surjeet Singh, who was the leading defender of U Mumba in PKL 4. He finished as the 2nd highest tackle point scorer in PKL 5 with 76 tackle points. In PKL 5, they bought Maninder Singh, who was the 3rd highest raid point scorer in PKL 1. He came off a 3 season break to finish in the top 5 raiders of PKL 5 with 190 raid points. Bengal Warriors have made some changed for Pro Kabaddi Season 7 which is scheduled from 19th July. Bengal Warriors have only retained Maninder Singh and Baldev Singh for the upcoming season and have signed-up Arjuna Awardee BC Ramesh as coach.Bengal Warriors were initially owned by retail company Fortune Group, who are known for their market retail stores like FBB, Big Bazaar, Home Centre, Brand Factory to name a few. Before the start of 12-team PKL 5, Bengal Warriors roped in Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar to be the co-owner of the team.
