Sunil Kumar is one of the best defenders in the country. He usually plays as the right defender. Sunil Kumar has been around for a while now and has represented the country as well. The Indian defender will feature in the upcoming Asia Kabaddi Championships which takes place in South Korea.
Sunil Kumar was born on 12th May 1997 in Sonipat District of Haryana. His family's occupation is farming, and he is the eldest son. The Indian defender took up the game after being inspired by his cousin at the age of 11. Notably, one of his cousins is Parvesh Bhainsal.
He made heads turn with his performance in the University Nationals, where he got gold medal. Soon, he was spotted by Jaivir Sharma who made him train at Sports Authority of India, Gandhinagar.
He joined the SAI team and achieved victory in Junior Nationals for two years from 2015 to 2017. Patna Pirates noticed his exceptional performance in the junior level tournament and selected him for the PKL Season 4.
Sunil Kumar majorly plays as the right defender for his team. His position needs upper body strength and speed. Sunil Kumar offers them both. He is known for making powerful grabs and tackles. Apart from these, Sunil Kumar is known for assisting tackles. He usually prevents the opponent team raiders from the bonus point. This would make them go for touchpoints, and Sunil Kumar would grab them/tackle them to put them down.
Sunil Kumar represented Gujarat for three years. From there on, he had an opportunity to train at the Sports Authority of India. After he got into Pro Kabaddi League, he had an offer to represent the Railways team. The defender went on to play for North Eastern Railways team. Soon, he made his India debut in South Asia Games 2019 where he won the 1st gold medal for the country.
Sunil Kumar's Pro Kabaddi League career began with Patna Pirates. He played for the team in Season 4 but unfortunately, he featured only in one match. In the PKL Season 5, he got picked up by Gujarat Fortunegiants. Up until Season 8, he played for the Gujarat franchise. In the PKL 9 auction, Jaipur Pink Panthers bought him for INR 90 Lakhs. He even became the captain of the team.
Sunil Kumar grabbed INR 30.40 Lakhs in the PKL 4 auction. He was retained in the 5th edition for INR 49.10 Lakhs. In the sixth and seventh editions, Gujarat paid him INR 67 Lakhs and INR 74.40 Lakhs respectively, to retain him. In the PKL 9 auction, he was sold to Jaipur Pink Panthers for INR 90 Lakhs, becoming the most expensive defender in the competition.
Sunil Kumar Malik is an Indian Kabaddi player who plays as a defender for the Indian men's kabaddi team. He was born on 12 May 1997 in Bhainswal Kalan at Sonipat district of Haryana. He was the eldest born in the family of farmers. Sunil started playing Kabaddi from a young age of 11 years after he was inspired by his elder cousin brother. Growing up, Sunil was a huge admirer of former Indian Kabaddi team skipper Anup Kumar. He is also a cousin of Parvesh Bhainswal.
Sunil first came into the limelight during the University Nationals when he helped his team win Gold. He then went to Sports Authority of India, Gandhinagar, to get professional training after being spotted by SAI Coach, Jaivir Sharma.
He played for the SAI team and went on to win Junior Nationals for two years from 2015 to 2017. His performance in the junior level tournament grabbed the attention of Patna Pirates and he was picked up by the team for the PKL Season 4.
