Mangalore University reached the semifinals of the All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championship 2019 in Udupi. They defeated the V.B.S University, Jaunpur 35-32 in a tightly fought quarterfinal match. The home team had earlier played two draw matches in their league stage to reach the quarterfinals. It was their second win in the tournament after a stupendous 96-17 win over Gadchiroli's Gondwana University.
Mithin Kumar led the attack for Mangalore as he managed to pick nine raid points from 14 raids and also got one tackle point. He was very well supported by Rajwinder Singh who contributed with six raid points and two tackle points. Pavan T R got four tackle points from five attempts as well as one point from three raids. VBS University's Govind Panwar also picked up a total of 10 points as they made it tough for Mangalore to win. Lalit Chaudhary's six tackle points from seven attempts were the most tackle points picked up by any player in the match. However, Mangalore did not let VBS catch them at any point in the game and went on to seal a place in the semis.

Mangalore will now face the star-studded team of M.D. University in the last four. The Rohtak based University defeated the University of Kota 54-20 in a one-sided affair. Ashish and Vinay went on to pick up Super 10s each, with the latter being on the mat for the entire match time. Ashish got a point in each of his 11 raids, while Vinay picked up 12 points from 13 raids. Anshul picked up a High 5 as he went to on score six tackle points. One of the strongest teams in the tournament, M.D. University could face tough competition from hosts Mangalore.
Ankit Beniwal's 18 points helped Kurukshetra University register a 63-29 win over C.B.L University, Bhiwani in the third quarterfinal match. In those 18 points, Beniwal picked up 13 raid points as well as five tackle points, to make it a double whammy in the match. Prashant and Sushil Gulia contributed 11 raid points each. Inflicting a total of four all-outs, Kurukshetra sailed way ahead of CBL University and made it to the semis.
G.N.D University, Amritsar was the fourth team to confirm their semi-final spot as they went past Kolhapur University 42-28. They will face Kurukshetra in the first semifinals.
