India will be up against Sri Lanka in the South Asian Games 2019 Kabaddi Finals on Monday, 9th December 2019. It will be the 10th finals for the Indian men's Kabaddi team, of which they have won nine times. The Indian team will enter the mat full of confidence to win their 10th gold medal at the South Asian Games. They have won all their preliminary matches, the last win coming against the hosts Nepal. India had defeated Nepal 62-26 Saturday afternoon.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be playing their first finals at the South Asian Games. They have been on a phenomenal form with three wins in four matches. The island country registered a shocking win against Pakistan in a close encounter. Sri Lanka had defeated Pakistan 29-27. They were then handed a 16-49 defeat from the hands of the Indian team. However, their performance against India and the intent to make a comeback during the match impressed everyone. Sri Lanka then had convincing victories against Nepal and Bangladesh to make a place in the finals.
They very well have the ability to give India a tough competition if they compose themselves to play in the giants like India. Led by Ranidu Chamara, the team boasts of Milinda Chaturanga who leads the attack for the team. Chaturanga has rose as a player with his experience in the Pro Kabaddi League. He is supported by Samakaroon and Lahiru Kuruppu in the raiding department, while the defense is covered by Lahiru Sampath and Sinotharan Kaneshrajah.
Nine-time champions India have been phenomenal in the 13th South Asian Games. The revamped team led by Deepak Niwas Hooda has registered huge wins over all the three opponents. Starting with a 49-16 against Sri Lanka, India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan 49-22. They defeated three-time finalists Bangladesh 44-19, with the last win coming against Nepal.
India has a star-studded attack led by Pardeep Narwal, Pawan Sehrawat, and Naveen Kumar. Nitesh Kumar and Visha Bharadwaj have taken care of the defense, with support from Sunil Kumar and Parvesh Bhainswal. They entered the tournament as the favorites and will be hoping to live up to the expectations.
