The second day of the Senior National Kabaddi Championships 2020 saw a total of nine matches being played in the men's category in the morning session. The matches were underway from 8 AM at the Poornima University in Jaipur. It was the second day of the league matches being played, which saw top teams like Indian Railways, Services and hosts Rajasthan in action.
Here is the detailed report on every men's match of the morning session on Day 2:
Railways vs Jharkhand (37-7): Group A
The first match of the day saw defending champions Indian Railways ruthlessly defeating Jharkhand in the Group A encounter. Fantastic performances from Rohit Gulia (9 points) and Pawan Sehrawat (8 points) helped the team win their second. The Indian Railways inflicted three all-outs on the Jharkhand team and were leading 19-3 at halftime. They continued to have the lead in the second half as well and went on to register a 37-7 win, their second in the league stage. With this win, Railways have made a place for themselves in the knockout stage of the tournament.
Delhi vs Goa (38-32): Group D
Playing their first group match, Delhi and Goa gave each other a tough fight in a bid to register a victory in their opening encounter. Delhi's Amit Nagar started off the match with two points in the very first raid of the match. Goa also opened their account in the very next raid and went on to equal the score to 3-3 as Nehal B Sawal scored a two-point raid.
Delhi went on to inflict the first all-out of the match in the 8th minute of the match to take a 13-4 lead. Goa then tried to make a comeback into the match with a Super Raid from Jagdeep and an all-out. Delhi were still leading 20-17 at half time. While Goa then played catch-up with Delhi, Amit Nagar went on a spree of points to make sure Delhi did not lose their lead. Eventually, Goa failed to equal the scores till the end, with Delhi winning the match 38-32.
Nagar went on to get a Super 10 in the match as he scored 14 raid points and one tackle point. He got assistance from Ashish who scored a High 5 with eight tackle points.
Pondicherry vs Tripura: Group E
Pondicherry opened their campaign at the Senior Nationals Kabaddi with a one-sided win against Tripura. Pondicherry's three all-outs and a High 5 from Raghul R was all it took for them to go past their opponent and win their match in Group E.
Viyasamuni and Vinoth Kumar scored eight and six points respectively for Pondicherry. For Tripura, Kaushik Chandra was the highest point scorer as he went on to pick a High 5 with six tackle points.
Kerala vs Chhattisgarh: Group F
Chhattisgarh's Virendra Singh scored a total of 27 points in a losing cause against Kerala in the Group F encounter against Kerala. In what was a close affair for a long period in the match, and even scores being equaled at on point, Kerala got better of their opposition.
Trailing 17-20 at halftime, Alameen S got a Super Raid to his name and leveled the scores. Yet another multi-point raid by Alameen got all the Chhattisgarh players off the mat, with a similar result coming in the sixth raid after that. It was the Kerala show after that after they raced to the huge lead in the second half. Chhattisgarh could not find a way to make a comeback as Kerala won 65-43.
Muhammad Mansoor (20 Points) and Alameen S (17 points) scored Super 10s in the match while Adarsh T got himself a High 5 with eight tackle points.
Telangana vs Chandigarh: Group H
It was a stellar performance from Chandigarh's Vijay as he raked on 21 points to lead his team to a victory against Telangana. It was a neck to neck battle in the first half of the match, with both the teams picking up points and getting a slender lead over the other.
At half-time Chandigarh had a 26-21 lead in the match. Soon into the second half, they went on to inflict an all-out on Telangana to increase the lead to 32-21. Telangana tried to make a comeback into the match as they inflicted an all-out on Kerala, with the scoreline reading 36-41 in favor of Chandigarh. However, that was not sufficient for them to win the match as they opened their campaign with a loss. Chandigarh won the match 47-42.
Punjab vs Assam: Group B
The Group B encounter between Punjab and Assam was a one-sided encounter as the Punjab men's team went on to demolish Assam 52-19. Punjab had a huge lead of 22-7 as the first half of the match ended and one all-out inflicted on Assam. As soon as the second half started, Punjab inflicted the second all-out to extend the lead into the match. In what was a total disaster for Assam, Punjab went on to send all of their players back on the bench two more times as the match neared its end.
An all-round effort from the Punjab players led to a huge victory for them. Rajwinderapal Singh scored eight points, while Sagar Singh scored a total of seven points after coming in as a substitute. Gurchet Singh, Gurdil Singh, and Jaskirat Singh scored five points each, with Jaskitrat picking up a High 5.
Rajasthan vs Odisha: Group G
The home team of Rajasthan notched up their second win of the tournament to make a place in the knockouts. They went on to defeat Odisha 54-13 with Brijendra Chaudhary scoring 14 points in total. Rajasthan out-played Odisha in all the departments and also scored four all-outs on them. He had come in as a substitute and was the highest scorer of the match. Kamal Kishor scored 11 points while Dharmendra Singh scored a High 5.
Uttarakhand vs West Bengal State Unit: Group G
After defeating Odisha in their opening encounter, Uttarakhand went on to register a second win against West Bengal State Unit on the second day of the tournament. They could be the second team from Group G to make it to the knockouts after Rajasthan.
Uttarakhand inflicted four all-outs on West Bengal, as all the starting seven players went on to score at least one point in the match. However, the star of the match was Ajay who came in as a substitute and went on to pick 12 points.
Services vs Assam: Group B
Assam faced their second loss of the day as they played the runner-ups of last year's edition, Services, in a Group B encounter. It was a second victory for the Services team, making them a stronghold in the group. Sahil scored 21 points in the match for Services which was way more than the team score of Assam. Naveen Kumar picked up six points for them while Sachil Narwal managed 12.
