The 2019 All India Inter-University Kabaddi Championship got over in Udupi on Sunday after an action-packed Kabaddi. A total of 16 teams participated in the four-day event. Rohtak's M. D. University won the finals after a dominant performance in the entire tournament. Held at the Poornaprajna College Ground, Udupi, the event was a huge success with a lot of Kabaddi fans to see their favorite teams play.
Amritsar's GND University were the runner-ups while the home team of Mangalore University finished on the fourth place after they were beaten by Kurukshetra University in the third-place match. The tournament saw participation of 16 teams from all over the country, with some of the top players making their presence felt in the tournament.
We spoke to the Director of Physical Education at Mangalore University, Dr. Kishor Kumar C. K., who was one of the members of the organizing committee of the tournament. Telling us about the programs he said, "Mangalore University is known for it's quality education, sports and culture. We are giving a lot of support for the promotion of sports in the university. We are giving scolarships for the University sports persons as well as re-examinations for them if they are not able to attend due to any sporting event." He also added that the university is also providing financial assistance for the international participation of the players.
Dr. Kumar said that all the participants were provided with free food and accommodation during the stay for the tournament. He also went on to congratulate and appreciate the work of the officials and the volunteers done during the tournament.
