Khelo India Youth Games has become one of the most important events in Indian sports since its debut in 2018. The first-ever event took place in Delhi, and it witnessed 16 sports. Years later, we are in the sixth edition of the tournament. Initially, it began as a School games tournament, and a couple of years later, Youth University games were introduced. Today, a lot of players from Khelo Games are making it to the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League.
In fact, in the auction, we have a separate category for the Youth Players. The New Youth Players are placed in Category D, and they have a base price of Rs 6 Lakhs.
Here are the top five players from Khelo Games who went on to impress in the latest season.
Rohit Tomar:
Rohit Tomar came to UP Yoddha's side after 2020. He represented the UP Under-21 state team which reached the semifinal of the edition. The team went down to Maharashtra in the semifinal but the tournament helped Rohit Tomar to catch the eyes of UP Yoddha management. He was picked up via New Young Player Category in the 8th edition. However, he had to sit through the whole edition as the team consisted of senior raiders like Pardeep Narwal.
In season 9, Rohit Tomar got more opportunities and was impressive throughout.
Narender Kandola:
Narender Kandola from Haryana was yet another youngster who made a mark for himself in the recent PKL. The 19-year-old was picked up by Tamil Thalaivas. He repaid the faith by scoring 249 points in 23 matches. He joined hands with Ajinkya Pawar and helped out the team to reach their first-ever semi-final.
Aslam Imandar:
Aslam Imandar made several heads turn when the Maharashtra U21 team went on to win the silver medal in the Khelo India Youth Games in 2020. The all-rounder caught the eyes of the Puneri Paltan side and even went on to represent the youth side, Yuva Paltan. The raiding all-rounder had 169 raid points and 20 tackle points in the PKL season 8. His top performance allowed Puneri Paltan to retain him for the PKL season 9.
Ankush Rathee:
Ankush Rathee's role in the Jaipur Pink Pathers was a bit different than other youngsters mentioned here. Jaipur Pink Panthers were the only team to have all three defenders with more than 50 points. Ankush, who ruled the left corner defence was adjusted as the best defender of the season for scoring 89 tackle points.
Saurabh Nandal:
Saurabh Nandal helped the Haryana U21 team to defeat Maharashtra in the final of the Khelo Youth Games 2020. His brilliance in the defence has helped him find a home with Bengaluru Bulls. He was picked up in 2019 and has stayed with the franchise since then. For the past three years, there has been a significant improvement in his performance. In the last edition, he had 73 points.
