Ram Mehar Singh aims to work on Development of Athletes in his new role of the Deputy Sports Director of Haryana
Ram Mehar Singh, one of the most known names in the Indian Kabaddi ecosystem first as a player and now as a successful coach. He won the Arjuna Award for his heroics in the Asian Games- 1998 and 2002, where he helped India win two gold medals. Ram Mehar Singh, once he finished playing the sport he did not take much time to get into coaching. He began his coaching career with the Indian Air Force team and Services Kabaddi team back in 2004 and from then on he has been one of the most successful Kabaddi coaches in the country. He is the only coach in the Pro Kabaddi League history to win the PKL title more than once.
6 months ago, Ram Mehar Singh was appointed as the Deputy Sports Director of Haryana State. He was handed over the Gurugram region which includes multiple places like- Faridabad, Narnaul, Ravari, and Palwal. Ram Mehar will be responsible for managing all sports in these mentioned regions.
He was previously working with the Indian Air Force as a Kabaddi Coach and was also working in the Athlete's Welfare department. Ram Mehar Singh played a crucial role with the Indian Kabaddi team from 2009-2014 where he was responsible for organizing camps, selection trails, player management, and more.
The Role of the Deputy Sports Director will include taking care of players and coaches ' welfare, sports infrastructure development, managing the district sports officers, and working with the Khelo India teams for sports development. He is very keen on helping the players to get the best out of them on the field and get medals for the country. He will be working under the Sports Director of Haryana Mr. Pankaj Nain. When asked about what was his vision for this role of Deputy Sports Director he said-
"I want to make sure that the players do not go through any trouble what so ever, a job for a player is to play and get medals for the country and job for someone like me is to ensure that players are taken care of well and are able to perform at the peak and deliver results.''
Ram Mehar Singh has been on the job for the last 6 months and has made a lot of progress in the new role. Now he wants to speak to all the coaches and find out what are they lacking and help them bring the best out of the players. He feels a coach plays a huge role in a development of a player. When asked about what is his priority at the moment for sports in Haryana he said-
"My Current priority to work on player rights, help the players who are winning medals for the state to ensure that they get what they deserve soon as in- scholarship, jobs awards, cash, etc. I also want to ensure every player from my region gets all the necessary facilities to practice, perform at their best and win medals.''
