PKL Season 10: Who is Patna Pirates' Newly appointed coach Narendra Kumar Redhu?

In April 2023, Patna Pirates appointed a new head coach for the upcoming season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League. The three-time champions Patna Pirates took to social media to share a video to announce the coach of the season.

The caption for the video said, "Captain of the Ship is now stronger than ever before. Hearty Congratulations to our new Head Coach".

The team have had multiple coaches in the past. Several coaches were successful for them. Manpreet Singh, Sanjeev Baliyan, and Ram Mehar Singh to name a few have done an excellent job for them.

The team, in fact, ended as the champions thrice and is the holder of several milestones as well. Narendra Kumar Redhu has been appointed the new head coach, and there is already excitement to see what he brings to this champion team.

Talking about his selection, Narendra Kumar Redhu said that he is looking forward to working with the champion team. He also mentioned that the team is one of the best in the world, and he will be keen to bring the cup back home. Later, he went on to mention that the team had already begun preparing for the upcoming season of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League.

Born in Jind, Haryana, Narendra Kumar Redhu has a diploma in sports coaching, certified by NIS. He belongs to an A grade in the coaching course.

Interestingly, he had worked in the Pro Kabaddi League earlier. In case, you don't know, he was the assistant coach for the Haryana Steelers in Season 6 of Pro Kabaddi League. However, the team did not have a good tournament. They ended up at the bottom of the table with just six victories from 22 matches.

However, Narendra Kumar Rethu has a good track record as the head coach in several other competitions. This is his first stint as the head coach for the Pro Kabaddi League. He began his coaching career with Green Army. Later, he coached the Red Army for Bangladesh Sports Exchange Kabaddi Tournament held at Bhopal in 2019 where he won the Gold Medal. He also has coached Red Army and won gold and silver medals in several All India A-Grade Tournaments.

Most recently, he was appointed as the coach of the Red Army for the Sri Lanka Sports Exchange Kabaddi Tournament held in Sri Lanka in 2014. The team ended up as the champions and won the gold medal.

The most successful franchise has taken a risk to appoint someone who doesn't have an experience as the coach in Pro Kabaddi League. This could turn either way for the team but if we look at the track record of Narendra Kumar Redhu, he looks like the perfect candidate for the coach of Patna Pirates in Season 10. He has done an excellent job with the Red Army team in the past and has a good idea about Indian grassroots. His experience and knowledge will come in handy in picking up the squad for the upcoming season in the auction.

The team has already won the trophy three times but they couldn't do much in the last edition which Jaipur Pink Panthers went on to win. Therefore, they will look for a revamp in the team and will look to grab the trophy once again. Narendra Kumar Rethu will have to play a major role in all of these and he has a huge responsibility as well. Since the previous coaches of the team have set a bar, it is going to be difficult for the man from Haryana to live up to all the expectations.
