PKL 11: Patna Pirates Bolster Squad with KIYG Gold Medalist Ayan Lohchab

The Patna Pirates, the three-time champion of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), have added a promising young talent to their roster for the upcoming PKL season 11. Ayan Lohchab, a rising star from the Haryana state team, joins the Pirates as a New Young Player (NYP).

Ayan Lohchab's journey to the PKL is paved with achievements. He secured a gold medal at the prestigious 49th Junior National Kabaddi Championship, showcasing his prowess at a young age. Furthermore, his exceptional performance at the Khelo India Youth Games, where he bagged two gold medals representing Haryana, caught the eye of the Patna Pirates scouting team.

The Patna Pirates, despite their dominant past as PKL champions, finished the 2023-24 season in sixth place. They managed 11 wins, faced 8 losses, and tied 3 matches out of their 22 encounters. This performance secured them a playoff berth. The playoffs offered a glimmer of hope.

The Pirates edged past Dabang Delhi in a nail-biting Eliminator clash with a score of 37-35. Their playoff journey, however, ended abruptly in the semi-finals against Puneri Paltan. The eventual champions completely outplayed Patna Pirates, resulting in a disheartening 37-21 defeat.

What is NYP in PKL?
The NYP category in the PKL allows franchises to recruit promising young players between the ages of 18-22 before the auctions. This system has proven successful in the past, with players like Aslam Inamdar, Mohit Goyat, and Naveen Kumar rising to prominence after entering the league as NYPs.

The addition of Ayan Lohchab showcases Patna Pirates' commitment to nurturing young talent. Lohchab's impressive record suggests he has the potential to contribute significantly to the team's quest to reclaim their past glory in the upcoming PKL 11.
