PKL 10: Know the commonly used terms
The Pro Kabaddi League is more of a household name today. Since its emergence, they have managed to attract the crowd and modernize the game in the country. The Pro Kabaddi League has helped in the growth of the sport and also has introduced Indian to several new terminologies which they have never heard before.
Let us take a look at the most commonly used terms in the Pro Kabaddi League:
High 5
High 5 is a term used when a defender has achieved five tackle points in a match. Since it is difficult to reach five tackle points for a defender, he gets loads of appreciation when he achieves this feat. Surjeet Singh is the current leader of the chart with 29 High 5s to his name.
Super 10
Super 10 is a term used when a raider completes 10 raids in a match. This is a huge landmark for a raider and is vastly celebrated. Pardeep Narwal is the current leader with the most number of Super 10s. He has 79.
Super Tackle
Super Tackle is the term used when there are only three or fewer defenders on the court. If the defenders successfully eliminate the raider, it is called Super Tackle. The defending side will get two points for Super Tackle.
Super Raid
A raid is called Super Raid when the raider manages to score three or more raid points in a single raid. Notably, the Super Raid is inclusive of both ways of scoring raid points- Touchpoints and Bonus Points.
Empty Raid:
Empty Raid means when the raider returns to his court without any points. Empty Raid is a technique used by teams to slow down the game. When your lead is not big and you have to protect them, the teams will imply Empty Raid.
Do-or-Die Raid
When the raider performs two consecutive empty raids, the third raid is called a 'Do or Die Raid'. The raider must score in this raid else he will be declared. This is yet another defensive strategy performed by teams to slow down the time.
Golden Raid:
Golden Raid is used in tie-breakers in knockouts game. At the start, a toss will be done and the baulk line is considered as the bonus line. The raider must return to his court successfully and if he does, Golden Raid is awarded. In the knockouts, the game keeps going until any side performs the Golden Raid.
All Out:
All Out is a common term used in Kabaddi. When a team takes the whole opposition side out, it is called all-out. The side that all out the opponent is awarded two extra points.
Revive:
The player is revived when his team outs an opposition player. The players are allowed to take the field in the same order as they got out. Whoever got out early will take the field first when the team member takes out the opponent.
Ankle Hold:
An Ankle hold is when a defender latches on a raider's ankle to restrict the foot movement of the raider as the latter attempts for a bonus point.
Block;
Block is a tackle move performed by the defenders where they put themselves in the path of the raider as the latter tries to cross the midline.
Backhold:
Back hold means when the defender grabs the raider and performs a back flip. This hold needs special awareness and strength.
Baulk Line and Bonus line:
Baulk Line is the line which is drawn in the mid of the court. The bonus Line is the line between the Baulk line and the end line.
Chant:
The raiders, while raiding must chant 'Kabaddi Kabaddi' throughout their raid.
Corner:
The two extreme ends of defence seven are called the corners. They play a major role in the defence as the raider targets them first.
