PKL 10: How Patna Pirates is Performing and What Should They Do To Bounce Back After 3 Straight Losses?
The Patna Pirates of the Pro Kabaddi League are the only side to have won the league title three times in a row. The only team in the league to successfully defend their PKL title is the Pirates, who have done so twice in the Pro Kabaddi League. With 12 points and a +4 score differential, the Patna-based team is ranked 9th in the rankings after winning just 2 of their 5 league games. They began with 2 consecutive wins but now are on a downfall, losing their last 3 matches.
The team from Patna faced the Telugu Titans, who were captained by flier Pawan Kumar Sehrawat, in the first game of the season. Patna dominated the game from the first point, defeating the Titans by 22 points with a score of 50-28. Every player on the Patna team contributed to the team's victory in that game. Sachin led the squad in raiding with 14 points, followed by Manjeet with 7 and Sandeep Kumar with 3. The team won because of the outstanding performances made by all of the defenders, starting with captain Neeraj Kumar (4 tackle points), followed by Sajin Chandrasekar (3 points), Krishan Dhull (2 points), and Ankit (5 points).
In their second game of the season, the Patna Pirates faced the Gujarat Giants, a home team coming off three straight victories. Despite the fact that it was by no means an easy victory, Patna defeated Gujarat 33-30 to win by three points. The main raiders in this fight, Sachin and Manjeet, combined for just six raid points, were unable to have much of an effect. To keep the squad in the game, however, Sandeep Kumar and Sudhakar M. came through with four and six points, respectively.
Although it was the most thrilling game of the season thus far, Patna lost their third game of the year against the Bengal Warriors, by 18 points, 42-60. Both teams scored over 100 points in that game combined. Although Patna's raiders performed admirably—Sachin and Sudhakar each scored a super ten—the defense let them down, and as a result, they lost the game.
Their fourth and fifth match of the season were both close defeats where Patna could have won the game but eventually lost by two and one points respectively. The raiders contributed well and defenders also played their part but Patna missed a trick and hence, faced the losses.
This season, Krishan Dhull has been the Patna Pirates' best defender with 14 tackle points, while Sachin Tanwar has been the team's best raider with 51 raid points. This season, the Pirates' main advantage is their talented team, which features young, motivated raiders and adept defenders who know how to control the game.
The Patna Pirates would want to stay away from such defeats, as they did in the most recent game. To avoid playing like they did in the previous game, the defense must organize and devise a plan. All that has to be done is for the raiders to keep up the good work that they have been doing. The key player to keep an eye on in the forthcoming games for the team is Sachin Tanwar.
