International Kabaddi Tournaments in 2023
The year 2023 will witness several important International Kabaddi tournaments, including Kabaddi World Cup, Junior Kabaddi World Cup, and Asian Kabaddi Championships, amongst others.
Men's Kabaddi World Cup
2023 will see the men's Kabaddi World Cup. The much-awaited World Cup will return after 2016. The tournament which began in 2004, has seen three editions so far. In all three editions, The Indian team have not only hosted the cup but also became the champions. In the last edition, they defeated Iran by 38-29 in the final to lift the trophy.
However, the tournament was stopped after the 2016 edition. India will be gearing up for the next edition of the tournament. The Kabaddi Federation is yet to confirm the dates of the tournament. Notably, top teams from Bangabandhu Kabaddi Cup will enter the Kabaddi World Cup 2023.
Bangabandhu Kabaddi World Cup 2023
Bangladesh geared up to host the third edition of the Bangabandhu Kabaddi World Cup. The tournament, which Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation hosted, took place between 7th March and 17th March 2023. Teams from Europe, Africa, Asia and South Asia will participate in the tournament.
The 1st edition of the tournament took place in 2013. Then the tournament was defunct for years. Later after COVID-19, the tournament came back in 2022. Bangladesh ended as the champions of all seasons so far.
Junior Kabaddi World Cup 2023
Junior Kabaddi World Cup was back for the second edition. This time, the tournament was organized in Iran from 26th February to 5th March 2023. Iran was the champion of the Junior World Cup in the 1st edition. They were the hosts of the tournament this time around. In the second edition, India lifted the trophy by defeating Iran in the final by 41- 33. Pakistan and Nepal finished third in the tournament.
Asian Kabaddi Championships 2023
Asian Kabaddi Championship is one of the oldest tournaments in the sport. Beginning in 1980, there have been 11 editions of the tournament. India is the most successful team with ten titles. Except in 2003, India has won all their title so far.
The 2023 edition took place in Busan, South Korea. India will successfully defend their title against Asian powerhouse Iran and Chinese Taipei. Both Chinese Taipei and Iran have shown the ability to stun any opponents but India proved why they are the defending champions.
Pro Kabaddi League Season 10
Pro Kabaddi League season 10 is likely to take place in December month. The official dates for the season are not announced yet.
The league is the second most popular franchise league in India after Indian Premier League. The last edition's viewership crossed more than 200 Million. This season is expected to be even bigger in terms of the viewership.
In the PKL 9, Jaipur Pink Panthers defeated Puneri Paltans to lift the trophy for the second time. While the dates for the tournament is not yet out, it is reported that August would be the month for the PKL auction, and December will see the tournament.
Yuva Kabaddi League 2023
Yuva Kabaddi League is one of the popular leagues for juniors. In order to promote the game amongst the youngsters. The tournament usually takes place in June and will run upto the beginning of July. A total of ten teams will face off in the round-robin format.
Khelo India Kabaddi
Khelo India is yet another place where Indian youngsters showcase their talent. This is a tournament that the coaches pay special attention to. As a result, a big performance on this stage could lead several youngsters to share the mat with their idols.
