“I started playing Kabaddi…” says Sahul Kumar ahead of PKL 11

Pro Kabaddi League matches are starting from October 18. UP Yoddhas will play the first match on 21st October. Sahul Kumar has been bought by the UP team for season 11 for Rs 30 lakh. He is also known as the 'Nonsense Defender'. In a recent interview, Sahul talked about his times in Kabaddi.

How did Sahul Kumar get selected in National?

Sahul Kumar said I Started playing Kabaddi with my elder brother. I used to go with him. He got a job in the army. I also thought that I could get a job by playing Kabaddi, so I also started playing. When the academy opened, I started practising there. Our coach Joginder, who was the Commandant in ITBP, taught us everything in the initial phase.

When asked about his tough times and do you ever think of leaving Kabaddi? He said there came a time when I did not get the opportunity. Not being able to play National and State, I felt like quitting the game but continued playing. After this, the selection took place at the state level.

It was from here that he got selected in the National in the second session. My goal is to get the team a trophy. If you do well in PKL, you will go to India.

Sahul Kumar also spoke about the game of Kabaddi. He said earlier Kabaddi was played in the village. Now we play in the city also. It takes 7 children to play Kabaddi. Doesn't seem like much. 7 players are required to play Kabaddi. Now more than one or two children are not found in the village. Nowadays many academies are opening and children are taking an interest as there is good growth.

He was bought by UP Yoddhas for Rs 30 lakh during the PKL 11-player auction. During the auction, he was sitting at home. For the auction, he said I had no idea what would happen and which team I would go to. Was sitting apart from family members. Everyone was happy when they got Rs 30 lakh. Everyone liked it. I was watching the auction sitting away from the family. No one in the house ever refused to play Kabaddi. That's why I have been able to reach here.
