Surender Gill named as UP Yoddhas' new captain for PKL 11

The UP Yoddhas have made a significant announcement ahead of the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season. The team has appointed star raider Surender Gill as their new captain, marking his debut as a leader for the franchise. Gill, who has been a key member of the Yoddhas since joining in 2019, will take over the reins from Pardeep Narwal, who captained the team last year.

Gill's appointment comes after the Yoddhas failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous season, marking the first time in their PKL history that they did not finish in the top 6. The team management decided to make some drastic changes, including releasing Pardeep Narwal and former captain Nitesh Kumar.

Gill has been a consistent performer for the Yoddhas, contributing significantly to the team's success. He has played 65 matches, scoring 510 points, including 20 Super 10s and 19 Super Raids. His ability to execute raids with precision and his leadership qualities make him a suitable candidate for the captaincy role.

However, Gill's fitness will be a crucial factor to consider. He has missed several matches due to injuries in the past, and his availability throughout the season will be essential for the Yoddhas' success.

The Yoddhas have also appointed two vice-captains for the upcoming season. Sumit Sangwan, a left corner defender, has been named as the first vice-captain. Sangwan has been a valuable asset to the team for a long time and his experience will be crucial in supporting Gill. Ashu Singh, a right-cover defender, has been appointed as the second vice-captain. Singh's defensive prowess and leadership skills will be valuable additions to the team.

With Gill, Sumit, and Ashu leading the squad, the Yoddhas have a strong leadership core. The team management will be hoping that this trio can guide the Yoddhas to their first-ever PKL title. The Yoddhas will begin their campaign against Dabang Delhi KC on October 21.
