37th National Games Goa 2023 Day 9 : Men's and Women's Kabaddi results

Kabaddi at the 37th National Games kicked off today at Goa with a number of mouthwatering matches in both Men's and Women's category. Total of 4 high octance matches were played today in both Catergories and 4 more matches are yet to be played today. 

We will start off the article with what happened in the Women's matches. In match 1, hosts Goa Womens took on Jharkhand Womens. Both the teams consisted of some extra-ordinary talents but the hosts clinched the victory in an one-sided affair. 

 

Led by raiders Pragati and Yashmati among others took Jharkhand's defense by a storm as Goa started as well as finished the game on a high note. Jharkhand showed sparks in the first half but at full time Goa prevailed by a margin of 24 points with the scoreline being 43-29. 

Up next, two Kabaddi powerhouses Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh faced off each other in Women's match number 2. Himachal were led by Asian Games gold medalist Pushpa Rana while Maharashtra was led by Priya Prajapati. 

This match was expected to go down the wire but by the 2nd half it turned out to be one-sided. Himachal Pradesh ended up as the winner thanks to impactful performances from Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur and Sakshi Sharma. Himachal won the contest by 44-23. 

 

There are 2 more matches to be played in the Women's category. Haryana Vs Punjab at 4:00PM and Rajasthan Vs Uttar Pradesh at 5:15PM. 

 

Men's Results:

Coming to the Men's category matches then Maharashtra and Punjab clashed against each other for the opening match. Maharashtra who are currently leading the Medal tally charts, have strong prospects of landing a Gold medal in Kabaddi.

They have one of the strongest squads in the National Games with players like Aslam Inamdar, Akash Shinde, Tejas Patil, Arkam Shaikh, Shankar Gadai and Aditya Shinde among others. 
Whereas Punjab have players like Lovepreet Singh, Rajbir Singh and Harmanjeet Singh.

 

On paper Maharashtra looked like a better team and on the mat they proved so as well. 
It was Aslam Inamdar, Akash Shinde and Aditya Shinde led the raiding department and ended the first half on 23-11. In the 2nd half, Punjab staged a decent comeback, scoring back to back points. 

They tried to shrink the gap but Maharashtra played smartly and played on Do-or-Die raid. At full time, the scoreline remained in favor of Maharashtra by 39-32. 

Lastly, defending champions Uttar Pradesh took on hosts Goa. UP are led by Pro Kabaddi League stars Rahul Chaudhari, Sahul Kumar, Abhishek Singh, Vikrant and Mohit Baliyan among others. 

 

They met a highly inexperienced side Goa who never looked in contention to win the match. UP swept Goa away in the first half with the scoreline being 35-16. UP's score was doubled in the 2nd half and so was Goa's but it just wasn't enough for the win. 

UP won the match by 61-30 to start the 37th National Games Goa on a high. 
In the evening, Tamil Nadu will go head to head against Chandigarh on 4:00PM whereas Haryana will face a stiff task against Services from 5:15PM.
