Everything you need to know about Junior Nationals Kabaddi Suryapet Telangana

The 47th Junior Nationals Kabaddi Championship will kick off in Suryapet (Telangana) from 22nd March 2021. Junior Nationals Tournament is in its 47th year. Junior Nationals is debatably the second most important Kabaddi tournaments. All Indian states and SAI (Sports Authority of India) send their best teams to Junior Nationals. It is the nurturing ground for young players to move from local tournament to the national league. The team of selectors which includes ex Indian captain Ajay Thakur will choose players who will represent India at the juniors level. Sachin Tanwar and Naveen Goyat were finds from Junior Nationals. The 46th Junior Nationals at Rohtak saw stars Meetu and Ankush Ashok emerge.

The tournament was till recently played on clay, often with makeshift stands for the audience. But often no seat goes empty in these stands. Last year, under the aegis of Haryana Kabaddi Federation the tournament really took off with data and video widely distributed to take decisions. The weight limit for the tournament is 70 kgs and below the age of 20. Players who have been a part of Senior Nationals cannot participate in Junior Nationals.

The nationals are set to happen in Suryapet where the nation’s finest young kabaddi players will suit up for their respective academy sides and battle it out in the nation’s premier junior kabaddi competition. 



 

Junior Nationals Girls

 

29 States are divided into eight pools (A-H), with Pool A, B and C consisting of three teams each, while the remaining five groups feature four teams each. The 38 league matches will go on on days 1-2 on 2 mats. In purview of the limited time often the last few matches may get scrapped unless the points table is affected. Haryana girls are the defending champions and are in a comfortable pool with Chattisgarh and J&K in Pool A. Finalists SAI on the other hand will take on home team Telangana and Bihar in Pool B. The other strong states include Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Maharastra.

Junior Nationals Boys

 

30 States are divided into eight pools (A-H), with Pool A and B consisting of three teams each with defending champions SAI in Pool A and  last-year's runners-up UP in Pool B, while the remaining six groups feature four teams each. The 42 league matches will go on on days 1-2 on 3 mats. In purview of the limited time often the last few matches may get scrapped unless the points table is affected. SAI boys are the defending champions and are in a competitive pool with Rajasthan and Bihar in Pool A. Finalists UP on the other hand will take on Southern states of Karnataka and home team Telangana  in Pool B. The other strong states include Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Maharastra.

Top two teams from each pool and a total of 16 teams will enter playoffs. Pre-quarters are due to start from 24th March.
