Day 1 of the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championships went underway in full swing in Poornima University campus in the Pink city Jaipur. In the girls' leg 6 matches were played with one game being a nail biter where Railways edged out Maharashtra with just one point difference. Other games had some obvious results with huge score differences.
The first match of girls' leg went underway with Himachal Pradesh facing off against Pondicherry where Himachal Pradesh was on top of their game from raid one till the end of the game to beat Pondicherry with scores reading 70-10. Jyoti top-scored for Himachal with 10 points to her name and the whole team contributing in this one-sided contest.
Later in the evening the defending champs Indian Railways and Maharashtra faced off against each other in a closely fought encounter where Railways got the better of Maharashtra with the score reading 33-32. The game was neck to neck throughout the 40 minutes and gained all the attention from the crowd here in Jaipur. Sonali Shingate and Pooja top-scored for Railways with 7 points each, for Maharashtra it was Helvi Sonali who got Maharashtra back in the game after the first half and ended up with 12 points from this game but this was not enough as Railways held their nerve to end up in the winning side.
The home team Rajasthan was also seen in action as they faced off against Karnataka where they beat them with the score reading 49-12. Renu top-scored for Rajasthan with 11 points to her name to give the home team an easy win.
Haryana, Delhi and Punjab picked up easy wins against their opponents as day 1 of the 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championships Girls leg saw some good Kabaddi to set up the tone for this 5 day event.
